If Martin Luther King was not assasinated what effect would he have on society today based on this generations views, belifs, and morals?

This generation is WEAK AND SELF-CENTERED based on the lack of respect they have for MLK!!! It really wouldn't matter if he were alive TODAY or not cuz young people only care about themselves and their own destiny...not the future of our nation and especially the future for the "people of color". It's like this if they would have lived through the bitterness of a nation filled with the constitution of racism, prejudice and stereotypes everyday that forced them to live with less freedom than a chained dog...then the work and life sacrifice of MLK would make a difference. Really though how many of you took time to recognize MLK today??? Exactly!!! Continue to enjoy the rest of your holiday...selfish generation!
I know that we have some intelligent young people living in this generation, but I don't believe that they have taken into consideration the freedom they have to walk hand in hand with another race or culture, being able to showcase their talents and beliefs on the same platform, on the same playing field in a world still filled with undercover and hidden racism.
It takes a conscience effort to believe in something that is right across the board, before it becomes a moral that only fits you. Martin provided that consciousness in a nation.
This generation was born into time predestined to have a predecessor come before them, that they could live in the moment and not have to fight the battle.
If Martin was not assassinated I don't believe that Hip-Hop could have done the same.
We can't control what generation that we are born in thus we can't control certain views that we have on life because what we have grown up on. To say that we are selfish and self-centered is indeed true, however the same thing can be applied to early generations as well. Everyone always speaks on the "good ole days". Were they really good? Or is it just the fact that you finally made it through those days make you feel good about what you have been through and accomplished. Let's not try and act like so much has changed, it has always been in human nature to look out for yourself. So let's look at this post in a more positive light. As far as how things would change if MLK was still alive today, HYPOTHETICALLY speaking there would probably still be an ongoing struggle against racism. It usually takes catastrophic events for both sides to realize that there is a need to create a change for the better. So this generation would most likely be hungrier for change, and more untrusting of people who are "different". Like most great people in history, they fight for a dream but usually never get to see it play out during their lifetime.
I believe if he was here today we would have had a black president a long time ago. The fact that MLK was becoming the voice of the unheard people all across the country not just blacks, but for many races and many underprivilege people, the government did not like that and took him down because his movement was strong. And I dont know if most people are even taught this anymore but the fact that MLK and Malcom X (when he returned from Africa)were going to join together in this movement. They dont teach that because they want to misimform the people that just read the textbooks in school. He was a very powerful man for his time or any time in that matter. His philosophy was brilliant and I believe we need to stop misusing what his generation fought for. Many young black people do not even care about this type of stuff because they feel since they have rights thats all that matters. Not knowing that many young blacks, especially men have the most discrimination when it comes to finding a job. That you do learn in Economy class in college. The percent of blacks in the higher sector of jobs has a very low percentage and it disgust me to see that None of us is taking a stand for it. Society is not colored blind and the fact that were just turning the other cheek makes no sense. Yes we have a black president but he still potrays what the white man. He has not equalled out the school systems to make education equal across the board, nor has he made it agianst the law to discriminate against the underprivilege in the work force. So in that being said I believe if MLK wasnt assasinated we would have the change that we really need in this country, in this world... Excuse me if there is any words out of wack, I didnt feel like proof reading. :-)
Without the assasination of Dr. ML King Jr. the Black civil rights movement wouldn't have went in the direction it had. However had he not been assasinated maybe his message would have penetrated our generation. He possilble would have been here in the 70's and 80's when the state of our community was volatile. Once we were a community unity in the fight for human rights to become a community torn up by drugs and violence in the 80's. That era still effects us today 30 years later. How many people do you know whose fathers and uncles were in prison? Or their grandparents raised them because their mother was a crack head? Maybe his legacy would be more than just a chapter in our history books had he not been murdered. Dont give wrong, it is but our generation lacks knowledge because its not in the text books, we dont seek it and the generation before us was strung out on drugs. Thats just my take on it.
thats hard to judge even knowing how this generations minds work, despite a very small percentage of free thinkers, he did much work in taking action, but that does not mean we will take the FOUNDATION and continue to build, because sadly certain things will probably never be possible despite the efforts of Dr. King, and the MANY other courageous activists that were not afraid to be brave even facing the most discouraging circumstances, we've come further than even he probably could have even dreamed, its beautiful, we need to realize one thing though, although the "real" dirty work is done, i say that because now we are not fighting against blatant racism, and prejudice, however let us not be naive enough to think it does not exist, because sadly it does(think about how all the major institutions, and industry's and who and how they are run), and it(the nature of constructed social obstacles for this specific group of people...i.e. minority) has been MANIPULATED from its original bold nature to a much more covert and tricky disguise, which ensues its hard to fight something you do not realize exist because you can not see it, well i guess the reality is sad as it may be if he were here this generation would NOT be doing anything other than what its doing now, we've had many people and time to spark REVOLUTION and change, REAL CHANGE that effects not only government but corporations(what really rules/runs the world)
man i could definitely go on and on about this but at the end of the day... who will get through to this generation... kanye? really... wake up people!
